Tanzania and Nigeria share spoils in Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualification first leg encounter
Tanzania U-23 and Nigeria’s U-23 teams played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualification clash on Saturday.
A penalty apiece in each half of the game ensured shared spoils at the Benjamin Mkpaka Stadium in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on Saturday October 22.
Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles skipper Success Makanjuoala scored from the spot to gift his side the lead but a determined Tanzania U-23 side battled to clip the Eagles in the second half.
Alley Msengi converted a 76th minute penalty to level scores for the hosts who will head to Nigeria hoping to avoid defeat or a goalless draw.
The aggregate winner of the match will proceed to the third qualifying round for a place at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
The second leg will take place on Saturday October 29 at the Lekan Salami Stadium Ibadan, Nigeria.
As it stands, a winner for either side will secure progression, while Nigeria will qualify with a goalless draw courtesy of the away goal rule.
