Napoli coach Spalletti wants more from Osimhen despite heroics at Atalanta

Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has challenged Victor Osimhen to improve on one aspect of his game despite his heroics on Saturday at the Gewiss Stadium.

Victor Osimhen was involved in all the goals as Napoli won 2-1 at Atalanta to remain atop of the Italian Serie A table.

The Nigerian conceded the foul that led to the penalty awarded to Atalanta which was converted by Ademola Lookman. Victor Osimhen scored the equaliser and also assisted the winning goal scored by Eljif Elmas.

Victor Osimhen as usual was very much involved for Napoli in both attack and defense, it was during the defensive duties that he conceded the penalty.

He was the target man, pressing forward, complete forward and poacher for Napoli on Saturday but despite his contribution, Spalletti wants more.

Spalletti wants Osimhen to “pass it and work with his teammates”.

“Osimhen is a player who has these sudden surges and spurts,” Spalletti told DAZN

“But he needs to every now and then also figure out how to pass it and work with his teammates.”

The Italian manager also explained why Victor Osimhen was subbed off in the 75th minute for Giovanni Simeone.

“He was a little tired today, but still created chances, caused issues, and when Atalanta pushed their wingbacks higher with the strikers wide, he was alone in midfield and in those situations can do more than he did tonight.”
