” We want to show that African Football has developed “, Morroco Coach Walid Regragui declares ahead of crucial World Cup game vs Canada
Walid Regragui believes his Morroco charges will prove African football has developed when they take on Canada in their final Group D game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Thursday.
The Morrocan’s will book a place in the last-16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup if they avoid defeat against already eliminated Canada at the Al Thuruamam stadium on December 1.
Ahead of the final group game, Morroco sit in second place with 4 points following a 0-0 draw vs Croatia in the first game and a surprise 2-0 victory of Belgium.
While responding to questions at the pre match interview, Morroco’s manager Walid Regragui was bullish about his sides chances of progression.
He said “It’s a tough game, it’s a final for us, Canada is out, they will play without pressure ”
” We have a lot to gain or lose. We know what we want and we know why we are here.”
“We are Moroccans and then Africans, we want to show that African football has developed and deserved more places. ”
” We are also Muslims, many supporters from the Arab and Islamic world encourage us and we wish them happiness.” The Morrocan gaffer remarked.
Morocco keeper Yassine Bounou was injured minutes before the win over Belgium, his replacement Munir Mohamedi impressing as the North-Africans secured a big win.
Another injury concern Noussair Mazraoui passed a late fitness test to start at full-back despite going off injured against Croatia in their group opener.
Walid Regragui who has named an entirely unchanged side initially until the late change in goal vs Belgium, will likely stick with the same 10 outfield players again from the start vs Canada.
Morocco possible starting lineup:
Bounou; Hakimi, Aguerd, Saiss, Mazraoui; Amrabat, Ounahi, Amallah; Ziyech, En-Nesyri, Boufal.
Brazilian Referee Raphael Claus will be the Referee for this one with kick-off slated for 4pm (Nigerian time).
