NPFL: Ayeni Backs Akwa United To Bounce Back From Insurance Loss
Akwa United Coach Deji Ayeni is confident that his team will recover from the stunning 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Insurance on Sunday in the opening game of the 2022-23 NPFL season.
Ayeni took over the reins of the team in the middle of last season after the resignation of Kennedy Boboye.
“I am a very positive person and I believe nothing is impossible. Football is a game where you win, lose or draw. We have found ourselves on the losing side this time, and next time we can find ourselves on the winning side. So, losing this game isn’t the end or anything we can be worried about, although it is very painful as a coach that has trained the players for several months. We will go back, and I believe we can bounce back in a bigger way,” Ayeni said.
He also opened up on the recruitment of the team with 29 new players joining the team.
“In terms of recruitment, a lot of players left the team, but that isn’t the yardstick to measure the result because if you watched the boys that played, they played very well, especially in the second half.
Ayeni guided Akwa United to a ninth-place finish and he will be hoping to do better in the new season.
