Victor Osimhen and Gift Orban were on target for their clubs in Champions League and UEFA Conference League games respectively during the midweek European Club Competitions.

They were part of the 6 Nigerian players who were directly or indirectly involved in European Club Competitions this midweek.

Champions League

Victor Osimhen: Frankfurt 0-2 Napoli

Unstoppable, and incredible Victor Osimhen scored his 20th goal of the season to help Napoli beat the Europa League Champions, Frankfurt 2-0 in Germany.

Napoli takes a healthy two-goal advantage going into the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg time in Italy.

Zaidu Sanusi: Inter milan 1-0 Porto

The 25-year-old defender was on the entire game as the Portuguese champions were beaten by a late Romelu Lukaku goal in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg.

Europa League Playoffs

Calvin Bassey: Union Berlin 3-1 Ajax (3-1 agg)

Calvin Bassey and Ajax were dumped out of the Europa League in the round of 32 by Taiwo Awoniyi’s former club Union Berlin on Thursday.

After a goalless draw in the Netherlands last week, it was going to be a tough game for the Dutch champions this week, and they failed to rise to the occasion.

Calvin Bassey who played in last season’s Europa League final now has been eliminated in the round of 32.

Simon Moses: Nantes 0-3 Juventus (1-4)

Angel di Maria scored three goals including a Puskas-worthy goal to send Simon Moses and Nantes out of the Europa League in the round of 16.

Simon Moses started the game and was removed in the 72nd minute as 10-man Nantes crashed out.

Mark Ugboh: Midtjylland 0-4 Sporting Lisbon (1-5 agg)

Nigerian goalkeeper Mark Ugboh was again an unused substitute as Midtjylland were battered 4-0 by Sporting Lisbon.

He could only watch from the bench.

Europa Conference League playoff

Orban GiftGent 1-0 Qarabag ( agg 1-1, 5-3 on PK)

Orban Gift came off the bench to score the import goal for Gent against Qarabag on Thursday.

The Nigerian who is fast becoming a fan favourite in Belgium also converted his penalty during the shout as Gent booked a place in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League.
