Nigeria got away – Guinea U23 Coach Morlayie Cisse

Guinea U23 Coach Morlayie Cisse has said the Nigeria U23 team got away from his team after they failed to beat Salisu Yusuf’s ward in Abuja on Wednesday.

Morlayie Cisse could not hide his disappointment after seeing his side play a goalless draw in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying fixture, first leg match at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

He said his side deserve to win the game but failed to punish the Olympics Eagles.

Cisse spoke in French (but was translated into English) in an exclusive interview with BSN Sports after the match.

“I told you (BSN Sports) yesterday (Tuesday) that we are in Nigeria for serious business and we showed that on the pitch today. We were the better side for the most part of the game.

“I am disappointed that we failed to finish the game from Nigeria. My players did well and my little problem is that we failed to score in today’s game.”

The second leg will be played in Rabat, Morocco on Tuesday, and Morlayie Cisse says any team can win the second leg since it is a neutral ground.

“It’s still a 50-50 chance for both of us in Morocco as we play on a neutral ground but for us to win, we need to improve on our weak areas on the field.”

The winner of the second leg will qualify for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations where Africa’s representatives to the 2024 Olympics will be selected.
