OFFICIAL: Nest of Champions to host final of 2023 Pst Umo Eno Easter Unity Cup
As gracefully approved by the Sir Monday Ebong Uko led Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Youths and Sports, the LOC of the 2023 Pst. Umo Eno Easter Unity Cup has officially announced the training pitch of the Nest of Champions Uyo as venue for the final match on Saturday April 15, 2023.
As gathered by SPORTSRATION correspondent Nsikakabasi Akpan, the grand-finale will be attended by the Akwa Ibom State Governor-elect Pst. Umo Eno, a man in whose name and honour the tournament is organized by the Grassroots Sports Federation of Nigeria – GRASOF.
Kick-off for the final match is 3pm. Olegacy FC (Uruan) and Ndito Charles Udoh (Uyo) will battle to be crowned Champions of the 2023 edition tagged ” Victory tournament ” to celebrate Pst. Umo Eno`s victory at the March 18 Gubernatorial election.
In its 2nd edition, 16-teams drawn from different Local Government areas of Akwa Ibom State took part in this years competition. From the colourful opening ceremony and in all the matches, football fans were thrilled with the excellent displays by talented youngsters who aside chasing the glory of being crowned champions had the opportunity of being watched by top football scouts.
The grand-finale will also be graced by prominent football stakeholders led by the tournament initiator and National President of the Grassroots Sports Federation of Nigeria, Hon. John Ekpenyong .
ROAD TO THE FINAL
As earlier stated, 16-teams took part in the 2023 edition of the Pst. Umo Eno Easter Unity Cup competition and were drawn in four groups.
To get the tournament underway, 2022 Champions Dynamic SPMD (Abak) took on Olegacy FC (Uruan) in a rematch of the 2022 finals.
Olegacy FC took revenge with a 4-0 bashing of Dynamic SPMD at the Training pitch of the Nest of Champions, Uyo on Wednesday April 5, 2023.
Thereafter, group stage action continued at two designated match venues, the Ikot Oku Ubo Secondary School for Group B, C and D teams while the Onna Staduim played host to Group A matches.
At the conclusion of Group stage matches, the following 8-teams proceeded to the quater-finals, Seawaves FC (Eastern Obolo), Dynamic SPDM (Abak), Ndito Charles Udoh (Uyo), Miracle Boys FC (Itu), Olegacy FC (Uruan), Mobility FC (Ikot Abasi), Bright Stars FC (Eket) and De Ark Sports Academy (Uyo).
