Nigeria Football Federation – NFF Executive Board member Rt. Hon Nse Essien has redeemed his $3000 pledge to the Flying Eagles for their win over Argentina.
On a day the entire country rallied behind the Ladan Bosso tutored U-20 Eagles for the crunch FIFA U-20 World Cup Round of 16 clash, the NFF Board member made a cash pledge to Flying Eagles if they get the job done against the Javier Mascherano tutored Argentina U-20 team.
Pre-match talks favoured a win for the South Americans who finished as group A winners with a 100% record and with the home crowd in their corner, it seemed a foregone conclusion that they would have their way with Nigeria.
True to the Indomitable spirit of the Eagle, second half goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Haliru Sarki gave Nigeria a 2-0 victory Argentina to leave the 2023 U-20 World Cup hosts stunned and out of the tournament.
After the stunning win, along with other members of the NFF delegation Rt. Hon. Essien met with the Flying Eagles and shared messages of commendation for the players and Head Coach Ladan Bosso who had prior to the tournament been subject of criticism.
“Gentlemen, I am here to salute you on behalf of the Nigeria Football Federation for your excellent performance against the host Argentina on Wednesday, ” an excited Rt. Hon. Essien told the Flying Eagles in a video shared online.
He went on to reiterate the commitment of the NFF under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau towards changing the face of Nigerian football for good.
In fulfilment of his pledge to the team, skipper Bameyi stepped forward to receive $3000 before the NFF Executive board member added words of admonition to the team.
” I want to assure you that Nigerians are solidly behind you, Play for your family, play for yourself and play for Nigeria,”
“ I urge you to remain focused and be relentless, be disciplined, committed and follow up instructions from the coach ” the football administrator added before the players rose in applause and cheers for the NFF Board Member and CEO of Nigeria National League club FC ONE Rocket.
In a related development, the Governor of San Juan, Mr Sergio Unac. presented a memorabilia to NFF Executive Board member Rt. Hon. Nse Essien in memorial of the cities hosting of the round of 16 clash.
The Flying Eagles will continue their FIFA U-20 World Cup journey with quater-final game vs the winner of the Ecuador vs South Korea Round of 16 clash.
