Born in England to Nigerian parents, Bukayo Saka was eligible to represent both countries but has since pitched tent with his country of birth.

While responding to questions on his decision to choose his country of birth over Nigeria at full international level , the forward revealed he almost played for his fatherland in 2019 but despite his choice of the Three Lions, it does not change the fact that he is Nigerian.

“I will tell you this. I was very close to playing for one of (Nigeria’s) youth teams in 2019.
“It was the wish of my father but things happen and you have to live with your decisions.
“I feel very much Nigerian and nothing can change that” Saka Said.
Saka represents the Three Lions of England and is expected to feature prominently for Gareth Southgates’s men when UEFA Nations League action begins in few weeks.
With the forward refusing to explain in detail why his attempt to represent Nigeria at Youth level did not come to fruition, speculations have emerged that little known Bukayo Saka then 17 was offered to Nigeria U-20 handlers but was not handed invitation as the team prepared for the 2019 U-20 FIFA World Cup.
The following year, Saka got his breakthrough season at Arsenal and was handed a call-up to represent the English National team, an opportunity he took and has flourished to become one of the teams key players.
