Asisat Oshoala nets worldie for FC Barcelona Femeni in Benfica thrashing
Ucheibe's side on receiving end of beating with Benfica
Super Falcons ace Asisat Oshoala scored a stunner for FC Barcelona Femeni as they strolled to a 5-0 win over Christy Ucheibe and her Benfica teammates in the curtain-raiser in Group A of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The Spanish side, defending champions of the tournament, showed off their star power from the first half, with two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas opening the scoring after 15 minutes. The Spanish forward added a second for the side in the 39th minute to double their advantage at home.
With one minute left in the first half, current Ballon d’Or holder Aitana Bonmati scored her first UWCL goal of the season, and she added a second for herself just seven minutes into the second half.
Nigerian star Oshoala was introduced off the bench in the 60th minute, replacing Mariona Caldentey. Within a minute of her introduction, the 29-year-old showed why she was once more nominated for the CAF African Women’s Player of the Year.
Norwegian star Caroline Graham Hansen forced an error out of a Benfica defender to gain possession on the wing before putting in a cross. Oshoala connected expertly with an acrobatic bicycle kick that went in between the legs of the Portuguese side’s goalkeeper.
Barcelona have started their title defence in the best way possible, and Oshoala delivered a classy reminder of her quality in front of goal. Ucheibe was missing for the Portuguese champions, presumably through injury.
