See where African teams set-up camps ahead of 34th AFCON
As the countdown to the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continues, the 24 participating teams have established training camps in various locations.
These camps are strategically located in the Middle East, North Africa, South Africa, West Africa, and some teams remaining at home. Here are the details:
- United Arab Emirates (UAE):
- Teams: Nigeria, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Angola, and Guinea.
- Burkina Faso set up camp in Dubai, playing a mini-tournament with Nigeria and DR Congo.
- Cape Verde fine-tuned preparations in Abu Dhabi before flying to Tunisia.
- Guinea chose Abu Dhabi for their training camp.
- Saudi Arabia and UAE:
- Teams: Cameroon, Gambia, Zambia, and Cape Verde.
- Cameroon and Gambia will prepare in Saudi Arabia, with Gambia moving to Morocco later.
- Zambia will partly be in UAE and later in Tunisia.
- South Africa:
- Teams: Ghana and Mozambique.
- Ghana will spend New Year’s Eve together in South Africa, undergoing a 10-day training camp.
- Mozambique will also prepare in South Africa before the AFCON.
- West Africa:
- Teams: Algeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Namibia.
- Algeria heads to Togo for its preparation stage, playing matches against Togo and Burundi.
- Guinea-Bissau will be in Mali, facing the Eagles and heading to Ivory Coast.
- Namibia will be in Ghana for its training camp.
- Tunisia:
- Teams: Cape Verde, Mauritania, and Zambia.
- Cape Verde scheduled a match against Tunisia during its training in the country.
- Mauritania starts preparation in Tabarka, Tunisia, facing Tunisia in a friendly.
- Algeria:
- Team: Tanzania.
- Tanzania prepares in Annaba, Algeria, with discussions for friendly matches.
- Home Preparation:
- Teams: Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, Mali, Senegal, and Ivory Coast.
- These teams opted to carry out their preparation in their respective home countries.
The AFCON 2023 is scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
