Alex Iwobi: Super Eagles can go far at the AFCON
In the run-up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to take place in Ivory Coast later this month, Alex Iwobi, the dynamic midfielder for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, is exuding confidence in the team’s abilities.
As one of the key players in coach Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad, the former Arsenal star is poised to play a crucial role in Nigeria’s pursuit of a historic fourth African title.
The competition promises to be a challenging affair, with formidable teams from across the continent vying for the prestigious AFCON trophy.
Despite the tough competition, Iwobi remains steadfast in his belief that the three-time African champions have what it takes to secure another title.
Speaking about the team’s potential, Iwobi remarked, “We’ve seen the ability and quality from those who made the squad and those who didn’t make the squad – because there is a lot of talent in Nigeria.
So, we have confidence that we can go far in this competition.
But we have to prove it to ourselves, and the first thing I can assure Nigerians is that we are going to give a hundred percent to make the nation proud.”
The Super Eagles are currently in a training camp in Abu Dhabi, fine-tuning their skills and strategies ahead of the tournament.
A crucial preparatory match against Guinea is scheduled for Monday, January 8, 2024, providing the team with an opportunity to test their mettle before heading to Ivory Coast next Wednesday.
In an unofficial test game played on Sunday, Nigeria crushed a Dubai Club 12-0 in Abu Dhabi.
