Blow for Super Eagles as Victor Boniface set to miss out on AFCON
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface is set to miss out on AFCON after picking up a groin injury in training. The Germany-based striker will miss the tournament with the Super Eagles as he is set to miss six weeks of action.
Boniface was missing for the Super Eagles as they thrashed a local Dubai team in a tune-up friendly. The 22-year-old was also not in the squad as Jose Peseiro’s side fell to the Syli Nationale of Guinea in another friendly encounter.
Reports from the camp have confirmed that the former Bodo Glimt striker will not play in the tournament, as he remains sidelined through injury. He becomes the second player to pull out of the tournament through injury after Wilfred Ndidi.
With Kelechi Iheanacho still also a doubt for the tournament, the Super Eagles squad looks increasingly thin heading into the competition, which is set to kick off in less than a week.
OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi is likely to be invited to join the squad as a replacement for the injured Boniface.
