NFF condemn cyber attacks directed at Alex Iwobi

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has strongly condemned the cyber attacks directed at Super Eagles’ midfielder Alex Iwobi, denouncing them as unwarranted and unjustified given his unwavering commitment and dedication to representing his homeland.

In a statement issued by the NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, the federation expressed support for Iwobi, highlighting his outstanding contributions to Nigerian football over the years.

Olajire recalled the key role Iwobi played in securing Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with his memorable goal against Zambia in Uyo.

“Alex Iwobi does not deserve these attacks,” Olajire stated. “He has a record of utmost dedication to duty and a remarkable attitude of giving his all on international duty. We cannot suddenly forget the great moments he has made on duty for Nigeria.”

Olajire urged fans to show Iwobi appreciation and support, citing his impressive track record as the seventh most-capped Nigerian footballer in history. With 76 caps to his name, Iwobi has proven his patriotism and commitment to representing Nigeria on the global stage.

“Iwobi is behind only Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo, John Mikel Obi, Nwankwo Kanu, and Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal (of blessed memory) in the record of most caps for Nigeria,” Olajire highlighted. “He has traveled to different countries and continents to defend the green-white-green for about eight years now.”

Throughout his career, Iwobi has represented Nigeria at prestigious tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia in 2018 and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 (Egypt), 2021 (Cameroon), and most recently, Côte d’Ivoire in 2023. His contributions to the national team have been invaluable, and the NFF urges fans to recognize and appreciate his dedication and service to Nigerian football.
