African Games: Nigeria names perfect mix of experience and promising talents for Badminton

The Nigeria badminton team for the 13th African Games in Ghana comprises experienced athletes and promising talents, including Dorcas Adesokan and Anuoluwapo Opeyori, both gold medallists at the 2019 African Games. Alongside them are ten other players and four coaches, forming a well-rounded contingent.

In the men’s category, players such as Anuoluwapo Opeyori, Aliyu Shehu, Victor Ikechukwu, Emmanuel Joseph, Godwin Olofua, and Musa Momoh will represent Nigeria. These athletes bring a combination of skill, determination, and experience to the team.

On the women’s side, former African number one Dorcas Adesokan leads the charge, accompanied by Zainab Alabi, Ramatu Yakubu, Grace Gabriel, Deborah Uke, and Sofiat Obanisola. This talented group of women is poised to make a significant impact at the African Games.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori, in particular, aims to defend his African Games title and has been preparing diligently for the competition. With a string of international championships under his belt, including the Olympic Games, Opeyori’s experience and recent successes, such as winning gold at the 2024 All Africa Seniors Championship and the 2024 Uganda Open, have bolstered his confidence.

His determination to retain his title reflects the team’s overall ambition to excel at the African Games and bring home more accolades for Nigeria. With a mix of seasoned campaigners and emerging talents, the Nigerian badminton team is primed to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level in Ghana.

The 13th African games will take place in Ghana from  8th to 23rd March, 2024 in three cities Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.
