Nwabali was forced off the pitch in the 73rd minute of the game, which ended in a 2-0 win for PSL table-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
The extent of Nwabali’s injury will be assessed in the coming days, casting doubt on his availability for the friendlies.
Despite the injury setback, Nwabali’s inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for the matches highlights his importance to the team, especially after his outstanding performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Ghana at the Stade de Marrakech on March 22, followed by a friendly against Mali at the same venue four days later.
Nigeria will closely monitor Nwabali’s injury status as they prepare for the international friendly matches against their West African rivals.
If he does not recover in time, the Super Eagles will prosecute the games with the duo of Francis Uzoho and Ojo Olorunleke, along with any other goalkeeper the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF ) calls up to the squad.
