CAF Champions League

2023/2024 CAF Champions League title race down to four

Africa’s premier club football competition, the CAF Champions League has reached an intense stage with only four elite teams remaining in the race for the coveted title.

From the initial 54 teams representing 42 countries that began the journey last year, a staggering 50 have been eliminated, leaving behind a select group of contenders.

The four teams that have advanced to the semi-finals are powerhouse clubs from across the continent: Al Ahly of Egypt, Esperance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, and TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Defending champions and record holders Al Ahly demonstrated their pedigree by securing their place in the semi-finals with a victory over Simba SC in Cairo.

Meanwhile, Esperance Sportive de Tunis faced a tough challenge against Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire but managed to advance to the next stage.

Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning African Football League champions and winners of the 2025/16 season, were pushed to their limits by Tanzania’s Young Africans but ultimately emerged victorious in South Africa.

TP Mazembe showcased their strength with an impressive away win over Atletico Petroleos of Luanda, securing their spot in the semi-finals.

The semi-final matchups promise to deliver thrilling encounters as the four remaining teams battle it out for a place in the final.

Al Ahly will face TP Mazembe in what is expected to be a highly competitive clash, while Esperance Sportive de Tunis will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the second semi-final.

The semi-final ties will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the first leg scheduled for 19-20 April 2024 and the second leg set for 26-27 April 2024.

Fans can anticipate an exciting display of football as these top clubs vie for a chance to be crowned champions of Africa. Further details regarding the dates and kick-off times will be announced by CAF in due course.
