Uyo to host Africa Academy Stars tournament, Troost-Ekong Foundation, Super Eagles in action packed week
Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom State, is gearing up to host the 2024 Africa Academy Stars tournament, Troost-Ekong Foundation launch charity match and the Super Eagles of Nigeria from May 31st to June 7th, 2024.
The Africa Academy Stars tournament will open the action-packed week of top-notch football action in Uyo and will showcase talented youngsters aged eight to eighteen across various categories including U-10, U-12, U-14, and U-16 for boys, as well as U-13 for girls.
Over the course of three days, the tournament will witness the clash of high-flying teams such as the Lagos-based Island Stars Football Academy with top Academies from Akwa Ibom State.
With less than ten days left until the tournament kicks off, about eight Youth Academies from Akwa Ibom State have already registered to compete alongside Island Stars Football Academy across different age-grade categories.
In the U-10 category, Island Stars will take on Blessed Stars, Greater Tomorrow, and Full Life Academy. The U-12 category will see Pillars Sports, Island Stars, Blessed Stars, and Greater Tomorrow Academy vying for victory.
The U-14 boys’ category will feature Rockers Football Academy, Full Life Academy, Sparrow Football Academy, and Pillars Sports Academy. Meanwhile, in the U-16 boys’ category, Island Stars Academy will be joined by Blessed Stars Academy, Immortality FC, Greater Tomorrow Academy, and Murphy Stars Academy.
The female category will witness acton between Island Stars Academy, Greater Tomorrow and two yet to be confirmed teams.
The matches of the 2024 Africa Academy Stars tournament will be held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, and Uyo Township Stadium, aligning with the vision to provide an exhilarating and competitive platform for the participating teams.
Following the Africa Stars Academy tournament, Uyo will continue its hosting streak by welcoming the William Troost-Ekong Foundation launch Charity match on June 2, 2024.
This will be followed by the much-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on June 7, 2024.
