Finidi George gets Victor Osimhen fitness headache ahead of his official Super Eagles bow

Finidi George will not be happy with Victor Osimhen injury updates as he prepares for his official bow as new Super Eagles head coach.

When Finidi George led Nigeria as interim coach for the friendly games against Ghana and Mali, Victor Osimhen was absent as he recovered from the injury sustained at the AFCON.

Ahead of the June international break, Victor Osimhen is a doubt following reports that he was absent from training on Monday as Napoli began preparations for their upcoming match against Leece.

Victor Osimhen has been sidelined from training sessions since sustaining an injury during Napoli’s recent home defeat to Bologna, which occurred two weeks ago. Consequently, he was also unable to participate in their match against Fiorentina last weekend.

As reported on Napoli’s official website, the Nigerian striker engaged only in gym activities at the club’s Konami Training Centre on Monday. His availability for the upcoming clash with Leece remains uncertain.

Due to his ongoing injury concerns, Osimhen may also be unable to feature in Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to face South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7, followed by a match against Benin Republic at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan three days later.
