Ademola Lookman encourages Atalanta teammates in Champions League push

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has rallied his Atalanta teammates to maintain their excellent form until the season’s end as they aim to clinch a UEFA Champions League place.

Lookman has sustained his impressive performances for Atalanta, building on last season’s success. The 26-year-old attacker has contributed eleven goals and seven assists in 37 appearances for La Dea across all competitions.

Atalanta currently holds sixth place in Serie A with 57 points after 33 matches. They trail Roma by two points, with Roma having played one additional game.

The new UEFA Champions League format, starting next season, will see five teams qualify from Serie A, potentially favoring Roma’s qualification if the standings remain unchanged.

However, Atalanta has control over their fate. Winning their remaining five matches would propel them past Roma into fifth place and secure their Champions League berth.

Following their 2-0 triumph over Empoli on Sunday, Lookman stressed the importance of maintaining their winning streak to secure Champions League qualification.

“This victory (against Empoli) is very important because we have to reach the Champions League. We also have commitments in the Italian Cup and the Europa League; winning today was crucial,” Lookman remarked, per Napoli Magazine.

“Roma is a formidable team, but so are we. We understand that every match is challenging, but we’re prepared to strive for victory in all of them.”

Atalanta has not participated in the Champions League for the past two seasons, but they are determined to end that drought this season.
