Ademola Lookman shines again with goal for Atalanta in victory over Empoli

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman continues to dazzle with his stellar performances, as he found the back of the net for Atalanta in their 2-0 triumph against Empoli.

The Bergamo-based club are vying for a coveted European spot in the upcoming 2024-25 season did their prospects a boost with a convincing victory at the Gewiss Stadium.

The match on Sunday, April 28, remained deadlocked until the 42nd minute when Elia Caprile managed to get a touch on Mario Pasalic’s penalty but failed to keep it out, granting Atalanta the lead.

In the second half, Nigeria’s hero from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom left corner, further extending Atalanta’s lead.

With this goal, Lookman has now tallied nine goals in 27 appearances for Atalanta this season, placing him within striking distance of Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface, and Victor Osimhen, who currently occupy the top three spots.

Napoli’s Osimhen leads the chart with 13 goals, closely trailed by Bayer Leverkusen’s Boniface and Moffi with 11 goals each, constituting the goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues.

Lookman’s strike against Empoli is testimony of his growing influence for Gian Gasperini’s side, positioning him as a formidable goal-scoring threat.

With seven fixtures remaining in the 2023-24 campaign, Lookman will be eager to build on his goal-scoring momentum and surpass Osimhen’s leading mark.
