Ademola Lookman Proud of Atalanta’s Latest Achievement
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has expressed pride in Atalanta’s performance this season, after helping the Italian club secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Lookman, who was the hero in last season’s UEFA Europa League final with a hat-trick against unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, has continued his fine form in the 2024/25 campaign. Despite Atalanta being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League earlier this season by Club Brugge, they have bounced back strongly in Serie A.
The 27-year-old scored his 20th goal of the season in Atalanta’s recent 2-1 win over Roma – a result that confirmed their return to Europe’s top competition. He was named Man of the Match for his efforts.
“It’s a great feeling,” Lookman told DAZN after the game. “We knew how important this match was to qualify for the Champions League. We gave a performance that deserved that.”
The Nigerian forward, who has also provided seven assists this season, added: “I always try to be available and give my best. The team has shown strength all year. We still have two more games and want to finish with as many points as we can.”
Lookman also praised the collective effort of the team: “It’s not easy to achieve what we’ve done this season, so congratulations to everyone. Tonight is a good night to celebrate.”
Under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta are currently third in the Serie A table, behind Inter Milan and Napoli. Lookman’s consistent performances have been key to their success, even though he missed some matches through injury.
With 20 goals and 7 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions, this is Lookman’s best season as a professional footballer. The 2024 CAF Player of the Year continues to shine for both club and country.
