Ademola Lookman scores as Atalanta thrash Juventus In Serie A
Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman continued his fine form with a goal as Atalanta thrashed Juventus 0-4 in a Serie A clash on Sunday night.
In a dominant display of attacking football, Atalanta stunned Juventus with a commanding 4-0 victory. The match started with both teams evenly matched, but Atalanta’s efficiency in front of goal ultimately proved too much for the hosts, leaving Juventus to lament missed opportunities and defensive errors.
The first half was a cagey affair, with neither side able to land a decisive blow early on. However, in the 29th minute, a handball from Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly inside the box handed Atalanta a penalty. Mateo Retegui stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Despite some Juventus pressure, Atalanta’s defense held firm, and the scoreline remained the same at halftime.
The second half saw Atalanta come out with more purpose, quickly doubling their lead in the 46th minute. Ademola Lookman, a constant threat on the left wing, made a darting run into the box and unleashed a powerful shot. Although Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio saved it, the rebound fell to Marten de Roon, who slotted home to make it 2-0.
As Juventus struggled to get back into the game, Atalanta added a third in the 65th minute. Sead Kolasinac linked up beautifully with Davide Zappacosta on the left side, and the ball was backheeled to Zappacosta, who finished with ease, sending the visitors 3-0 up.
It was a dreadful mistake from Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic that sealed the visitors’ fate. Vlahovic miscontrolled a pass and, in trying to recover, sent the ball straight to Lookman, who pounced on the opportunity. The Nigerian forward sped past the defense and fired a shot past Di Gregorio at the near post for a 4-0 lead in the 77th minute, completing a perfect counterattack.
Despite late substitutions and a few Juventus attacks, Atalanta’s defense stood resolute, and the match ended 4-0. The win saw Atalanta rise to third place in the Serie A standings, while Juventus, still in fourth, will need to regroup quickly after a performance that will leave their fans wondering what went wrong.
With this emphatic victory, Atalanta sent a clear message to the rest of the league: they are a force to be reckoned with.
