AFCON 2021: Nigeria beat Sudan 3-1 to advance to next round

The Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Falcons of Jediane of Sudan 3-1 to book a place in the next round of the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Two first half goals and a goal in the second half ensured Nigeria made it 2-out-2 at the ongoing competition in Cameroon.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen picked the same team that got the job done in the first game against Egypt and they duly delivered.

Samuel Chukwueze who Austin Okocha was expecting to play better than he did in the first game, turned up against Sudan as expected.

The Villarreal forward latched on a pass from Simon Moses to put Nigeria ahead in the third minutes of the game.

It became two in the last minutes of the first half when Taiwo Awoniyi had the ball parried to his head by fumbling
Ali Abdallah.

Nigeria continued from where they left it off and scored the third at the restart of the second half through Moses Simon.

Simon, started a play from the midfield, lofted the ball to Awoniyi who shielded and lay it back to the Nantes forward to fire home from close range.

The Sudanese we gifted a goal when Ola Aina fouled their player in the box, Walieldin Khidir stepped up and converted.

Nigeria sealed their passage to the next round with the 3-1 win despite having to play Guinea Bissau in their last game.
