Africa’s Club world Cup hopes Crashes
- As Palmeiras defeat Al Ahly 2-0 in semi final clash.
Palmeiras were 2-0 victors over CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly in Tuesdays Club World Cup semi-final match. The loss puts paid to Africa’s hopes of a 3rd Club world Cup final appearance and a possible shot at a first-ever title win.
Goals from Raphael Veiga and Dudu Pereira in the 39th and 49th minute were all the Brazilians needed to dump out Pitso Motsimano tutored Al Ahly who finished the game with 10men. Palmeiras will now meet the winners of Wednesday’s Semi-Final in Sunday’s final.
TP Mazembe (2010) and Raja Casablanca (2013) are the only African sides to ever grace a Final of the FIFA World Cup. Al Ahly who defeated Monterrey 1-0 in the Quarterfinal will now return home as Africa’s wait for a first-ever club world Cup triumph continues.
