After Osimhen’s loan move, Napoli sign another Nigerian footballer

After the tense events last summer leading to a loan move for Victor Osimhen, Napoli have signed another Nigerian footballer, this time a female, named – Olamide Adugbe.

21-year-old Olamide Adugbe is a standout player from Nigeria and has completed a permanent transfer to Napoli Femminile, the women’s team of the Serie A club that also serves as the parent club of Nigerian football icon Victor Osimhen.

Adugbe’s move to Italy marks a significant step in her career after an impressive stint with Rivers Angels, where she played a key role in securing the Federations Cup title.

Adugbe, who signed a one-year deal with Napoli Femminile with an option to extend for two more years, expressed her excitement about joining the Italian club.

“It is a dream come true. The journey has started, and Osimhen will hear the name,” Adugbe said, sharing her aspirations of making an impact in European football.

The rising Nigerian football star’s move was celebrated in grand fashion by her former club Naija Ratels Football Club.

The club hosted a special farewell match against Nigeria’s U17 National Team at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, with notable figures like Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau and Secretary-General Dr. Sanusi Muhammad in attendance.

Barrister Paul Edeh, chairman of Naija Ratels and the Benue State Football Association, reflected on Adugbe’s departure with mixed emotions.

“Olamide’s departure is a bittersweet moment for us. She has been a tremendous asset to this team, and while we will miss her, we are proud to see her grow and represent Nigeria on a larger stage in Europe. This is just the beginning for her,” Edeh remarked.

Adugbe’s new team, Napoli Femminile, currently sits fifth in Serie A Femminile after three games. The talented forward is set to make her debut soon, and expectations are high as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career.
