Ahmed Atef Hattrick Sinks Rivers United as Pyramids Win 3–0 in Cairo

Rivers United began their CAF Champions League group-stage campaign on a disappointing note after suffering a 3–0 defeat to defending champions Pyramids FC at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

The Nigerian side held their own in the first half, keeping the African champions quiet and going into the break level. However, the second half told a completely different story.

Egyptian forward Ahmed Atef took full advantage of Rivers United’s defensive lapses, scoring a brilliant hattrick to seal all three points for Pyramids. His goals came in quick succession, leaving the Pride of Rivers with no response as the match slipped away from them.

The result leaves Rivers United with work to do as they look ahead to their remaining group matches.

Rivers United will now hope to regroup quickly and revive their campaign in their next outing.
