Ahmed Musa reveals what new Super Eagles coach must do against South Africa and Benin Republic

Finidi George has officially taken on the role of head coach for Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, after serving as an assistant to former manager Jose Peseiro for the past two years.

This appointment comes just ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, which will mark his official debut as head coach.

Musa Stresses Need for Immediate Results: Nigeria’s national team captain, Ahmed Musa, has emphasised the importance of Finidi George delivering quick and positive results. Musa highlighted the high expectations placed on the new coach, especially following the team’s recent struggles, including a disappointing loss in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

Background and Expectations: Finidi George, a former Ajax winger, led the team as an interim coach in friendly matches against Ghana and Mali in March. Now, as the head coach, he faces the significant task of guiding the Super Eagles through the World Cup qualifiers, starting with challenging matches against South Africa and Benin.

Musa made it clear that winning these games is crucial for boosting both the team’s and the coach’s confidence. “There is a lot of expectations for him now that we have two very difficult games to play for the World Cup qualifiers. The important thing is just to win these two games because if we win, a lot of confidence will come for him and the team. So we just have to support him and wish him best of luck,” Musa told ESPN.

Finidi’s Immediate Challenges: As Finidi George prepares for his official debut, he will need to quickly adapt to his new role and implement strategies that can secure victories. The Super Eagles’ performance in these qualifiers will be critical not only for their World Cup ambitions but also for establishing Finidi’s tenure on a strong note.
