Ajax Coach Heitinga Backs Bassey To Bounce Back
Ajax interim manager, John Heitinga has described Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey as a top professional.
Bassey joined Ajax in the summer in a record deal worth €23m transfer and became the third-most expensive signing for the club.
He has now lost his place in the team following a dip in form and Ajax’s poor performances which led to the sack or Alfred Schreuder.
Schreuder was replaced by John Heitinga on an interim basis until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old has started just once in six games under John Heitinga.
“Calvin is a top professional. He comes from Glasgow and knows a different way of playing,” Heitinga told ESPN per football Scotland.
“In Holland, a lot is demanded of the ball and you play with a lot of space behind you.
“He can defend. We have to help him and make sure he has plenty of opportunities, but we know how long the rest of the season is. We are going to need him.”
