Akor Adams nets brace as Montpellier trounce Toulouse

Super Eagles hopeful hits seven goals in nine apps for club

Nigerian striker Akor Adams scored twice for Montpellier as they coasted to a 3-0 win over Toulouse in their Ligue 1 encounter.

Former Flying Eagles star Adams sent out a plea to the Super Eagles selectors during the week about his willingness to fight for a place in the squad. He then followed up his words with a brilliant performance for Montpellier.

Adams needed only 13 minutes to open the scoring for Montpellier after finishing off a pass from Teji Savanier for his sixth league goal of the season.

Playing in front of their fans, Montpellier continued to play well but failed to add a second goal before the interval.

The home side managed to add a second in the 63rd minute through Khalil Fayad, who was on hand to slide the ball into the back of the net after a flicked header from Boubakar Kouyate.

Montpellier added a third and rounded off the scoring after 72 minutes as the impressive Akor Adams finished brilliantly one-on-one when set free by Joris Chotard.

Adams has now scored seven goals in his first nine appearances for Montpellier in Ligue 1, more than any other player has done in their first nine appearances in the history of the club. The 23-year-old is behind only Kylian Mbappe (10 goals) for goals in the French top-flight this season.
