Akor Adams returns to form, nets brace for Montpellier in huge win over Lorient

Nigerian striker Akor Adams was at the double for Montpellier as they claimed a 3-0 win away from home against FC Lorient in their Ligue 1 meeting, ending his four-game barren run.

Adams had yet to find the net for Montpellier since scoring against Olympique Lyonnais on Matchday Two, and was in his fifth game without a goal.

The former youth international opened the scoring for Montpellier after 30 minutes with his fourth goal of the season. The 23-year-old striker saw the ball delivered to him on a plate from Mousa Al-Taamari after a quick counter caught Lorient out, and he just tapped in from close range.

The visitors doubled their advantage through Teji Savanier in the 73rd minute, with the forward firing home from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.

Akor Adams rounded off the scoring for Montpellier in the 89th minute with a fine, composed finish. The Nigerian striker received the ball from Joris Chotard, before showing great composure to fake a shot and chop back onto his left foot, beating a defender and slotting a low shot under the goalkeeper.

Montpellier picked up only their second win of the season and have moved up to ninth in the standings. Adams has scored five of the side’s nine goals in the league this season, underlining his importance.
