Akwa United accept Fatai Osho resignation, announce Abdullahi Umar will lead the team post-osho era

Days after Fatai Osho reportedly resigned as it’s head coach, Akwa United FC has accepted the decision and announced Abdullahi Umar will lead other assistant coaches in the new era.

Recall that SportsRation on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 confirmed Fatai Osho has  resigned as Head Coach of the 2021 NPFL Champions, following a 1-0 loss vs Heartland FC in a week fourteen clash on Sunday.

In a message signed by the Akwa United FC media manager, Mfon Patrick and posted on the clubs official website, the club said:

The resignation of our head coach Fatai Osho has been accepted with mixed feelings by the Akwa United Management.

According to the Chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey, “coach Osho is a victim of world wide football tradition where coaches, no matter how good, pay the price for poor run of their teams.

” He is a good coach, he remains one of the best in the land, unfortunately, it did not work for him at Akwa United.

“Osho came to a club that in the past eight years boasts a tradition of excellence, hence the misgivings of our supporters world wide. He is a victim of Akwa United’s success. We wish him well going forward”.

The Management added further that replacing Fatai Osho will not be easy and wants to appreciate all those who have expressed the desire to coach the club.

We have received so many applications home and abroad and we are not in a hurry to make a decision. For now, the assistant coaches led by Umar Abdullahi are in charge of the team“.

In a tweet following his resignation coach Fatai Osho wrote:

Elder Paul Bassey, I can’t thank you enough for my time at Akwa United FC. You’re a rare breed that deserves all happiness and success. We gave it our all but it was not to be.This temporary set back will be followed by unimaginable success. I will forever appreciate you.

The 2021 league champions, Akwa United is presently in the danger zone in the table. They are 17th on the log with 14 points from 14 matches comprising three victories, five draws and six loses.

The Promise Keepers will next take on Sunshine Stars on Thursday 21st December at the Eket Stadium by four O’clock in the afternoon (4pm) before traveling on Christmas day (a two-day journey to Katsina) for their match-day 16 encounter against Katsina United scheduled for Thursday 28th December, 2023.
