NPFL Champions Akwa United laboured to a 1-0 win over Sir Monty Fc in the first Semi Final of the 2022 Akwa Ibom State FA Cup.
It was an even first 45 minutes as the brilliant Sir Monty Fc lads matched their more illustrious opponents in possession. Their fluid passing from defence to attack carved open the promise keepers backline on numerous occasions but indecision and expert defending by the opposition defence kept them at bay.
Akwa United were more purposeful in attack with Adams Yakubu and David Onovo denied by the Sir Monty Fc goalkeeper in a goalless first half.
Four minutes into the second half, Akwa United’s David Onovo scored the only goal of the match with a volley from inside the penalty area.
Wisdom Fernando’s volley went inches wide of the target in the 74th minute while Sir Monty Fc thought they had gotten an equalizer with Nsikak Isaac’s free kick in the 87th minute but goalkeeper Uche Okafor reacted quickly to stop the ball from rolling over his goal line.
It finished Akwa United 1-0 Sir Monty Fc. The Promise Keepers progress to the final of the Akwa Ibom state FA Cup.
The competition continues on Thursday 9th June 2022 when Dakkada Fc face Ibom Youths Fc by 4pm at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio international stadium Uyo.
