Akwa United, Five Others Set for Preseason Tournament in Uyo
Akwa United Football Club will host a six-team preseason tournament in Uyo as part of preparations for the 2025/2026 football season.
The competition, organised in conjunction with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, will run from Thursday, 21 August to Friday, 29 August 2025 at the Uyo Township Stadium.
The teams taking part are:
- Akwa United Football Club
- Blackpool Football Club
- Covenant Football Club
- Immortality Football Club
- P-Sports Football Academy
- Godswill Akpabio Football Club
According to the organisers, prize money will be shared among the top three teams. The winners will receive ₦250,000, the runners-up ₦150,000, and the third-placed team ₦100,000.
Fixtures released by the tournament secretary, Comrade Omon Bassey, show that Akwa United will open the competition against Blackpool FC at 7:00am on Thursday, 21 August. Other opening-day matches will see P-Sports Academy face Covenant FC at 9:00am, while Immortality FC take on Godswill Akpabio FC at 11:00am.
All matches will be played at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Akwa United and Godswill Akpabio FC are using the tournament to prepare for the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season. Blackpool FC, champions of the Akwa Ibom State League, are also sharpening up ahead of the Nationwide League One (NLO) promotion playoffs starting on 10 September 2025.
The other sides, P-Sports Academy, Immortality FC and Covenant FC, will also take part in the competition as they continue their build-up to the new football season.
