Akwa United, Godswill Akpabio United Set for Ibom Preseason Tournament Final

Akwa United FC will face Godswill Akpabio United FC in the final of the Ibom Preseason Tournament on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Uyo Township Stadium.

The final, scheduled to kick off at 4pm, will see both teams battle for the tournament title as they continue preparations for the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

Akwa United secured their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over Abia Comets in the semi-finals, while Godswill Akpabio United defeated Rovers FC on penalties to book their place in the title decider.

Both teams have recorded three wins from four matches in the competition, showing good form ahead of the new season.

Akwa United, under Head Coach Paul Offor, have used the tournament to assess their squad, with the technical crew making changes to the starting line-up for each match to give different players an opportunity to prove themselves.

Godswill Akpabio United, coached by Edward Green, have also enjoyed a strong run in the competition and will be looking to maintain their form in Saturday’s final.

The two teams have already met once in the tournament. In their first-round encounter, Godswill Akpabio United claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Akwa United.

That result adds another talking point to Saturday’s final, as the Promise Keepers will have an opportunity to respond to their earlier defeat, while Godswill Akpabio United will aim to complete a double over their opponents.

For both teams, the final will provide another chance to test their players and assess their readiness for the new NNL campaign.

Akwa United will be seeking to build a strong squad capable of securing promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), while Godswill Akpabio United will also be eager to make a positive impression ahead of the new season.

With both sides recording three wins in the competition and their previous meeting decided by a single goal, Saturday’s final promises to be an interesting contest.
