Akwa United Reach State FA Cup Final, Confirm President Federation Cup Spot

Akwa United booked their place in the final of the 2026 Akwa Ibom State FA Cup after a dominant 4-0 victory over Heaven’s Race Academy, while also sealing qualification for the 2026 Nigeria President Federation Cup.
The Promise Keepers delivered a strong performance in the semi-final, with goals from Daniel Gothom, Yannick Menegbe, and a brace from Aniebiet Sunday securing a comfortable win.
Akwa United started on the front foot and controlled the early stages of the game but were initially repelled by disciplined defending and excellent goalkeeping. Heaven’s Race goalkeeper was in fine form and even saved a 32nd-minute penalty from Charles Etim.
However, Akwa United found the breakthrough just before half-time when Daniel Gothom showed great pace to beat his markers and finish calmly past the goalkeeper.
The second half saw Akwa United take full control. Yannick Menegbe doubled the lead in the 56th minute with a well-placed header.
Aniebiet Sunday then capped off an impressive display by scoring twice, sealing a convincing 4-0 victory for the reigning state champions.
The win sends Akwa United into the final of the Akwa Ibom State FA Cup, where they will face Godswill Akpabio United FC on 25 April 2026 by 4pm at the Uyo Township Stadium.
More importantly, the result confirms Akwa United’s place in the 2026 Nigeria President Federation Cup, Nigeria’s top domestic knockout competition.
Akwa United will now aim to build on their rich history in the national tournament, having won the Federation Cup twice, in 2015 and 2017.
