Akwa United ready for new season – Coach Paul Offor

Akwa United head coach Paul Offor says his team is fully prepared for the new Nigeria National League season as they begin their campaign on Sunday, 16 November, with a home match against Solution FC at the Uyo Township Stadium.

The fixture, scheduled for 3:00 pm, will be the first-ever competitive meeting between both sides. Akwa United, relegated last season, are targeting an immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Coach Offor, who has overseen a major rebuild of the squad, expressed strong confidence in his players and believes they have what it takes to succeed this season.

“I am impressed with the players I have for this season,” Offor said. “After months of working with some of the best and most talented players during screening, we carefully selected those we believe can represent this great club.

“We have established a clear pattern of play and played several friendly matches to test the boys in real situations. I can boldly say we are ready for this match against Solution FC and prepared to face any team this season.”

Offor added that the main mission is to bring Akwa United back to the top flight.

“Our goal is to take Akwa United back to where the club belongs — the Nigeria Premier Football League,” he stated. “The players know the task ahead, and we, the coaches, are focused on guiding them through any challenges. We believe we have a solid team, and I want the players to show their quality while defending the club’s badge.”

He also called on fans to rally behind the team, saying their support provides motivation.

“We want our fans to enjoy great performances and have reasons to come out and cheer us to victory,” he said.

Midfielder Ubong Essien will captain the team, with versatile defender Charles Etim serving as his assistant. The club has registered 34 players for the 2025–26 NNL season under the leadership of chairman Joseph Eno.

Akwa United will compete in Southern Conference B, which has ten clubs. Only the top team will secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
