Akwa United stumbles, Nasarawa United and Pillars record big wins; NPFL Matchday 31 Round-up

Akwa United played a goalless draw in their NPFL Matchday 31 encounter away to Plateau United at the New Jos Stadium. Both sides failed to breach the defence of their opposition, ensuring that the game finished in a stalemate. Akwa United maintain their first position on the log but have seen their lead cut to just two points following the draw.

Nasarawa United defeated Jigawa Golden Stars at the Lafia Township Stadium by three goals to one. The Solid Miners took a 2-0 lead in the first half through a Silas Nwankwo brace that takes the lanky forward to 13 league goals this season, making him the outright top scorer. Adamu Hassan added a third in the second half before Samuel Stone scored a late consolation for Jigawa Golden Stars from the penalty spot. The home side climb back to second place on the log after their win.

Kano Pillars were at their dazzling best as they swept Lobi Stars away 3-0 thanks to a brilliant performance at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Umar Hassan, David Ebuka and the ageless Rabiu Ali got the goals for Sai Masu Gida in a routine win that puts them in third place, level on points with second-placed Nasarawa United.

Sunshine Stars picked up the result of the week with a shock 1-0 away victory over Heartland at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. The Akure Gunners got the winner on the hour mark through Ifegwu Ojukwu as they look ready for the relegation scrap of the final weeks. Sunshine Stars have moved out of the relegation zone after their win over the Naze Millionaires.

Enyimba and Rivers United played out a 1-1 draw at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. Malachi Ohawume opened the scoring for the Pride of Rivers in the 33rd minute before Sadiq Abubakar drew the home side level three minutes into the second half.

Katsina United thrashed FC Ifeanyi Ubah 3-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium thanks to goals from Samuel Kalu and Joseph Atule in an 11-minute blitz in the first half. The Changi Boys are up to 13th in the NPFL table courtesy of the win.

Kwara United moved back into fourth place on the NPFL table after a 2-0 win over Rangers International at the Kwara State Sports Complex. Second half goals from Kabir Balogun and Olawale Farayola helped secure all three points for the Afonja Warriors on their own turf.

Warri Wolves picked up a credible 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors at the Ozoro Poly Stadium thanks to two goals in the opening 15 minutes of their match through Williams Sunday and Emmanuel Ihezuo. The Umuahia Landlords have now lost five consecutive matches in the league this season.

Wikki Tourists edged Dakkada FC 2-1 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium. Nazifi Yahaya opened the scoring for Wikki after 30 minutes before Kareem Abdoulaye equalised for the Chosen Ones two minutes before halftime. Sale Ibrahim scored the winner for the home side after 73 minutes to seal all three points for them.

Adamawa United were held to a 1-1 draw at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe by MFM FC. Michael Bolaji opened the scoring for Adamawa United after just three minutes before Izuchukwu Chimezie equalised for the Church Boys after 72 minutes of the encounter.
