Akwa United to look inward for Fatai Osho replacement

Following the resignation of Fatai Osho as head coach of Akwa United FC, the management, SportsRation gathered will look inward for a replacement ahead of their clash vs Sunshine Stars on Thursday.

On Monday, December 18, 2023, reports emerged that Fatai Osho has resigned his position as head coach of the Promise Keepers after what has been a poor start for the former Nigerian champions.

Having started the season with title-winning ambition, Akwa United FC have won just three of fourteen matches so far this season, a run that left the club management unhappy and eventually the resignation of Coach Osho after a 1-0 loss vs Heartland FC on Sunday, December 17.

With the Promise Keepers scheduled to welcome Sunshine Stars of Akure in week-15 of the 2023/2024 NPFL season on Thursday, December 21, at the Eket Stadium, a new gaffer will lead the clubs charge for redemption.

SportsRation exclusively reports that Akwa United FC will not name a new substantive head coach to replace Osho but trust a member of the existing coaching team to lead the club.

Whereas, no official statement has emerged from the clubs communication channels to the effect, SportsRation has through visit to the teams training gathered that Coach Abdullahi Umar who has been with the club for a very long-time will take charge of the team.

With the experience gathered working under the likes of Abdul Maikaba, John Obuh, the NPFL winning season with Kennedy Boboye, Ayodeji Ayeni and Fatai Osho, Umar is thought to be the best man with sufficient knowledge of the club to lead the charge for revival.

Akwa United Football Club are currently placed 17th on the NPFL log, a situation Coach Abdullahi Umar will look to remedy starting with the game vs Sunshine Stars on Thursday.
