By: Timothy Dehinbo

It would be the battle between the team at the top of the log Plateau United and the team presently occupying the bottom spot Akwa United.

This evening in NPFL matchday 8, Akwa United will welcome unbeaten Plateau United at the Nest of Champions.

Akwa United who haven’t been impressive this season continued to be non-impressive on Thursday evening losing to Enyimba 1 nil courtesy a late minute fine volley from their former star, Mfon Udoh.

Mfon got the winner for his Enyimba team and heart breaker for his former side, in the 82nd minute, from 20 yards out, assisted by Ibrahim Mustapha.

The loss saw Abdul Maikaba’s team, Akwa United, drop to the 20th position.

He expressed dissatisfaction after the game, and felt they could have gotten a point, but were unlucky.

“We lost today, and we aren’t happy, because we had a good game in which we should have gotten a draw, but luck was against us” said Maikaba.

Plateau United remained unbeaten in the league after beating El Kanemi Warriors 2 nil on Wednesday evening.

They dominated proceedings right from the beginning and got
a breakthrough in the 10th minute when Solomon Junior put them in the lead.

They almost doubled their advantage in the 31st minute through a header from Philip Azango but the effort went wide.

But they were successful in the 44th minute when three players exchanged passes before Jimmie Ambrose scored with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Plateau United could have put the game to bed in the 70th minute, but Golbe Elisha’s goal from a free kick was ruled offside.

After the win, Kennedy Boboye, Coach of Plateau utd, said that every member of the team was determined to contribute 100 percent to the club’s success.

“Every member of the team, from players to officials, is there for the team and we are ready to continue in this way and maintain it,” Boboye assured.

Plateau utd 17 points from 7 matches this season is the best in the league for over 20 years. They have conceded only 4 goals and scored 12, so far, which shows how good and bright they have been this season.

Last season, this fixture ended 1-1 at Plateau and a 2 nil win for Akwa at home. But this is a different Plateau utd, so Akwa would have to strife hard to win, even though they at home.

The game could end in a score draw.
PREDICTION: AKWA UTD 1-1 PLATEAU UTD
