Alcaraz’s Long Wait continues after Cincinnati Withdrawal
Carlos Alcaraz’s return to competitive tennis has been delayed once again after the Spaniard withdrew from this month’s Cincinnati Open to continue his recovery from a wrist injury.
The 23-year-old had been expected to make his comeback in Cincinnati after missing the Canadian Open, but his latest decision means fans will have to wait even longer to see him back on court.
Explaining the withdrawal, Alcaraz admitted it was one of the toughest decisions he has ever had to make.
“I have to listen to my body and make the difficult decision not to compete in Cincinnati this year. It is never easy to miss a tournament, especially one where I have such great memories, but my priority right now is to recover fully and be ready for what comes next.”
Although his recovery has progressed, the former world No. 1 said he still isn’t physically ready to compete.
“I’m working hard every day with my team, and although I’ve made progress, I’m not yet at the level I need to compete.”
Tournament director Bob Moran said the organisers fully supported the Spaniard’s decision to prioritise his health and wished him a speedy recovery.
Alcaraz’s injury has now forced him to miss every major tournament since April. He missed Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the Canadian Open and now Cincinnati.
For now, Alcaraz’s focus remains firmly on making a full recovery rather than rushing back before he is ready.
