Alex Iwobi beats Mikel Obi after starring in recent Fulham game

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has achieved a significant milestone in his Premier League career, becoming the Super Eagles player with the fourth-highest number of appearances in the English top flight.

Iwobi hit this height after starring in Fulham’s recent 1-1 Premier League draw vs Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage.

Having made his Premier League debut for Arsenal nine years ago, Iwobi has been a consistent presence in the league since then. He spent four seasons with Arsenal before joining Everton in 2019. After four seasons with Everton, he made the move to Fulham last summer, where he has continued to feature prominently.

In the latest match against Crystal Palace, Iwobi started for Fulham and put in an impressive performance, completing the full 90 minutes. Rodrigo Muniz scored the decisive goal for Fulham, although Jeffrey Schlupp managed to equalize for Crystal Palace.

During the game, Iwobi recorded 42 touches, maintained a 75% pass accuracy, and made two tackles.

This appearance marked Iwobi’s 250th in the Premier League, surpassing Mikel, with whom he was previously tied on 249 appearances.

Remarkably, Iwobi is now just two games away from equalling Yakubu Aiyegbeni, who holds 252 appearances. However, he still trails Shola Ameobi by 49 games, with Ameobi holding the record for the highest number of appearances among Nigerian players in the Premier League.

It’s worth noting that Mikel achieved all his 249 Premier League appearances during his time with Chelsea.
