Alex Iwobi hailed after 11th goal contribution of the season

Rangers legend Kris Boyd has praised Alex Iwobi for his key assist in Fulham’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the American Express Stadium on Saturday.

Iwobi set up Raul Jiménez’s opening goal in the 35th minute after a brilliant solo run down the right wing from his own half. He picked out Jiménez in the box, allowing the Mexican striker to control the ball on his chest and then fire a low shot past Brighton’s goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen.

The assist took Iwobi’s total goal contributions for the season to eleven, with seven goals and four assists in 33 matches across all competitions.

Brighton responded just six minutes later when Jan Paul van Hecke headed a goal into the net, taking advantage of poor marking by Fulham’s defence.

João Pedro then sealed the win for Brighton with a penalty in the final minutes of the match. Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Boyd praised Iwobi’s delivery and Jiménez’s calm finish.

“It’s a top finish. The ball from Iwobi is good but the finish is better. He chests the ball down before firing a left-footed strike into the back of the net,” Boyd said on Sky Sports.

Iwobi, who has been one of Fulham’s standout players this season, was substituted in the 89th minute for Ryan Sessegnon.

His impressive performances have earned him a place in Nigeria’s 39-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
