Aliyu Zubair Resigns as Elkanemi Warriors Coach

Head coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, Aliyu Zubair has officially resigned from his role at Elkanemi Warriors FC.

Zubair, who will lead the national U-20 team to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, announced his resignation in a heartfelt message to the club on 10th June 2025.

In his message, Zubair thanked the club’s management, players, staff, and fans for their support over the last two years. He said he has decided not to renew his contract, which is ending, and believes it is the right time to move forward in his career.

Zubair reflected on his time at the club, saying he was proud of helping Elkanemi Warriors return to the top league, win the FA Cup, and remain in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL). He also expressed deep gratitude to the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, and other local sports leaders for their support.

Although he is leaving Elkanemi Warriors, Zubair said he still considers Borno State his home and thanked everyone for the opportunity to serve the team.

Zubair will now focus fully on his duties as the head coach of the Flying Eagles.
