Aminu Abubakar scored the only goal to fire Nasarawa United FC past Zamfara United FC in the opening game of the 2023/2024 NNL season.
The Lafia City Stadium replaced Uyo Township Stadium as venue for the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League season opener and former NPFL sides Nasarawa United and Zamfara United squared-off in the first game of the season.
Nine minutes into the match, Aminu wrote his name in the history book when he scored the first goal of the 2023/2024 NNL season off an assist by former Nigeria Youth International, King Osanga who was the teams skipper for the game.
That goal decided the keenly contested game, with Nasarawa United FC walking off the Lafia City Stadium with maximum points.
After the well attended game, Chidera Nduka was named ‘ Man of the match ‘ for his enterprising display for Nasarawa United FC.
In attendance for the NNL season opener was Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State who performed the ceremonial kick-off for the new league season, alongside his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Aliyu Ubandoma, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Jafaru Ango, and his counterparts from other Ministries; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Isaac Danladi; representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation led by the NFF Secretary-General, Dr. Sanusi Muhammad, Board Members of the Nigeria National League headed by George Aluo; Chairman of Nasarawa United FC, Dr. Othman Ibrahim Ahmed; top Government functionaries, among others.
Nasarawa United FC suffered relegation from the NPFL last season and will look to make a quick return and have started well with the win over Zamfara United FC.
Action continues in the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League season on November 18 with matchday one fixtures across all four conferences.
