Andrey Rublev gets revenge on Safiullin after Wimbledon Defeat
Andrey Rublev got his revenge on Roman Safiullin by beating him 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at the China Open in Beijing, a few months after Safiullin defeated him at Wimbledon and reached the quarterfinals of the China Open.
This time, Rublev got the better of the big moments.
The 28-year-old had already survived a tough opening-round match against Tallon Griekspoor, winning 6-4, 5-7, 7-6, before facing Safiullin.
This win continues a strong run for Rublev in China. He reached the final in Hangzhou last week, where Daniil Medvedev beat him, and has now followed that up by making the last eight in Beijing.
It is also Rublev’s 33rd win of the 2026 season.
After losing to Safiullin at Wimbledon, Rublev now has another quarterfinal to look forward to in Beijing.
