Anietie Uko Wins NNL Goal of the Month Award for May
Anietie Uko of Dakkada FC, has been announced as the winner of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Goal of the Month award for May 2025.
The award, sponsored by Prostar and Sports Lighthub, recognises the best goal scored in the month across the NNL. According to an official notification from the league, Uko’s superb strike against Crown FC of Ogbomoso on matchday 18 earned him the honour.
Uko, fondly known as “Iron” by fans and teammates, scored the goal at Uyo Township Stadium in dramatic fashion. With Dakkada behind and the clock ticking, a long throw-in from Edoho Mfon was only partially cleared by Crown’s defence. Uko reacted quickly, meeting the ball with a thunderous volley from outside the penalty area. The ball flew through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner, leaving Crown’s goalkeeper, Sultan Mubarak, completely rooted to the spot.
The goal, which drew loud cheers from the home crowd, brought Dakkada level at 1-1. Though the match ended in a draw, Uko’s strike was widely praised in the media and football circles for its quality and precision.
This goal is one of five Uko has netted so far this season, adding to his reputation as a reliable and creative force in midfield. The former Shooting Stars and Sunshine Stars player has continued to impress with his leadership and skill in the ongoing 2024/2025 campaign.
Uko will receive the Goal of the Month award in a formal ceremony at the Westpoint Hotel in Abuja on 18 June.
