Anthony Davis Leads Washington Wizards to Victory Over Charlotte Hornets With Double-Double

Anthony Davis produced an outstanding performance to lead the Washington Wizards to a 95-79 victory over the Charlotte Hornets in their opening fixture of the 2026 Emirates NBA Cup Group Play on Friday.
Davis was the standout performer of the contest, recording an impressive double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds to help Washington secure its first victory in East Group C. His contribution on both ends of the floor proved crucial as the Wizards produced a strong performance to overcome Charlotte.
Trae Young also played an important role in Washington’s success, finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds and nine assists, alongside three steals. AJ Dybantsa added 17 points and eight rebounds, providing further support as the Wizards established a comfortable winning margin.
Washington’s defensive performance was particularly impressive, as the team restricted Charlotte to just 79 points throughout the contest. The Hornets struggled to generate enough offensive production to challenge the Wizards, eventually suffering a 16-point defeat.
The result gives Washington a positive start to its NBA Cup campaign, moving the team to 1-0 in East Group C, while Charlotte begins its group-stage journey with a 0-1 record.
For Davis, the performance represents an encouraging contribution as Washington looks to become more competitive this season. His combination of scoring and rebounding, alongside the playmaking ability of Young, could prove important as the team continues its campaign.
The Wizards will now look to maintain their momentum in their remaining group fixtures, while the Hornets face the challenge of recovering from their opening defeat.
