Anthony Nwakaeme misses out on domestic double despite scoring his 13th goal of the season

Anthony Nwakaeme has missed out on the opportunity to win a domestic double after Trabzonsor were beaten 4-2 by Kayserispor in the second leg of the Turkish Cup semifinal game played on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles striker scored the first goal of the 6-goal thriller from a spot-kick for his 13th goal of the season for the already crowned Turkish League winners.

Kayserispor failed to find the back of the net until substitute Emrah Bassan scored the equalizer in the 48th minute of the game.

The home team took the lead through Majid Hosseini in the 59th minute of the game but Anastasios Bakasetas equalized for Trabzonspor in the 88th minute.

With Trabzonspor’s 1-0 first-leg win the 2-2 draw would have taken the league champions to the final on a 3-2 aggregate score.

But Mame Baba Thiam scored a penalty in the 91st minute for a 3-3 aggregate score, the home team went on to claim the game when Emrah Bassan scored the 4th goal of the game.

With a 4-2 score in the second leg and an aggregate score of 4-3, Kayserispor booked a place in the Turkish club final instead of Anthony Nwakaeme and Trabzonspor.

Despite missing out on the chance to win the Turkish League and Cup double, Anthony Nwakaeme scored 13 goals in 33 appearances.

The Super Eagles striker has scored 1 in 4 Europa Conference League games, 1 goal and 1 assist in 2 Turkish Cup games, and 11 goals, 10 assists in 28 league games.

His goal contribution this season is 13 goals+ 11 assists (24 goals) in 33 games.
