Antonio Conte says Super Eagles target is ‘the future’ of Chelsea
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has tagged Nigeria Super Eagles target Tammy Abraham the future of the London club.
Conte who was speaking to the press during the pre-match conference ahead of EFL Cup fourth round tie against West Ham praised the 19-year-old who has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances on loan at Bristol City.
The manager says the club’s academy is “working very well”, but the younger players only get minutes if they have earned them.
“[Tammy Abraham] is the future for Chelsea, for sure,” he said.
“He is very young, I saw him for one week only in pre-season then we decided to send him to play every game and to do experience and then to come back with us.
“In my squad we have [Nathaniel] Chalobah, [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek, [Dominic] Solanke and this is fantastic because you can see the future.
“I think it is fantastic they are in the squad, and if they deserve to play, they play. I do not play them as a gift, if I play them it is because they deserve it.”
Recently, NFF chairman Amaju Pinnick promised to get the young forward for Nigeria.
